Primary Art: LDS Church Approved Artwork for use in Primary

Many people experience confusion regarding the phrase, “church approved” concerning audio visual materials in the LDS church. If an item has been church approved, then it is distributed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the church logo can be found on it somewhere. Many other wonderful products are produced and distributed by LDS affiliated companies, but if the church logo cannot be found on it, it is not considered “church approved.” If a piece of primary art has been distributed by the church, information will be written on the back stating so.

Church leaders have recommended that the vast majority of materials used in classes and sharing time come from these church approved resources to maintain the proper spirit and ensure focus on the lessons outlined in the manual and outlines provided by the church. While there is much primary art available from other sources, it is not necessary to look to other sources as the church provides adequately for the lessons.

Church approved materials include a wide range of resources, and leaders have more than enough to choose from to provide well-rounded lessons. The manual “Teaching, No Greater Call” also contains a list of available resources as well as providing essential information for all teachers to be able to magnify their callings.

Resources for Primary art include monthly magazines, Ensign, New Era, and Friend, the Gospel Art Picture Kit, and New Gospel Art Book, Preach My Gospel Manual, Behold Your Little Ones, Mormonad posters, and individual pictures that can be purchased from the LDS Distribution Center or ordered through the church's online store.
